A Green Darner dragonfly (Anax junius) flying over open water at Huntley Meadows Park, Fairfax County, Virginia USA. This individual is a male, as indicated by the blue coloration of its abdomen. (The thorax is green for both male- and female Green Darner dragonflies.)
Photo 1 (of 2) is the best dragonfly in flight photo I’ve ever taken! Photo 2 is a close second; although not as sharp as Photo 1, it does show the black and blue “bulls eye” in front of the dragonfly’s eyes.
