Eastern Pondhawk dragonflies (mating pairs)

I was a man on a mission to photograph mating pairs of Eastern Pondhawk dragonflies (Erythemis simplicicollis) last fall, as I mentioned in a recent post. (See Seeing the bigger picture.”)

These two images are the last photographs from my archive of unpublished photos I consider worth posting. The first photo is entitled “A Thorny Situation.” The second photo is untitled. Any suggestions?

The photos were taken at nearby spots alongside the boardwalk at Huntley Meadows Park where, for several weeks, I observed male Eastern Pondhawks searching for females. I’m fairly certain the same two males returned to their preferred territory day-after-day. In both photos, the male is on top and the female is on the bottom.
