Blue Dasher dragonfly (male)

Ubiquitous. Yep, that’s Blue Dasher dragonfly (Pachydiplax longipennis).

A male Blue Dasher was spotted during a photowalk with Michael Powell around Mulligan Pond at Jackson Miles Abbott Wetland Refuge (JMAWR) in Fairfax County, Virginia USA.

    I mentally admonish myself often as I think “just another Blue Dasher” and walk on by seeking that rarity which never materializes.

    These small dragons are so beautiful they deserve better treatment. I’m trying to do better. I know if I look at my library of this species, I will, without a doubt, utter such things as: “Oh, the focus is soft”; “Why didn’t I compose this better?”; “Why don’t I have more images of the female?”; etc.

    As I enjoy the impeccable detail of your photograph, I feel even worse about my efforts.

    On the other hand, you have provided with a benchmark to work toward! Thank you!
